How to pronounce açaí without making a fool of yourself.
Sixteen letters of Portuguese heritage, three syllables, one very common mistake.
01The answer
ah · sah · EE
Not "ah-KAI". Not "AY-see". The c-cedilla (ç) is soft, like an s, and the stress lands on the last syllable. Said with confidence — volume, we've found, apparently increases correctness.
02What you're ordering
Açaí is a palm berry grown across the Amazon, harvested, pulped and snap-frozen the same day. That frozen pulp is the base of the açaí bowl — a thick smoothie base built for toppings like banana, granola and peanut butter, carrying fibre, antioxidants and a swag of minerals.
